Unsilenced: Male Rape by the Sri Lankan Security Forces

The latest report titled Unsilenced, released by the International Truth and Justice Project (ITJP) on September 19, makes for grim reading. The report addresses a form of torture that is rarely spoken about despite being widely practiced – sexual violence against men caught up in conflicts. The report is by Dr. Heleen Touquet, a researcher and an assistant professor at the faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Leuven, Belgium.

ADB technical aid to make Sri Lankan cities more liveable

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will give a 10 million dollar technical assistance loan for a facility to improve the design and implementation of urban projects in Sri Lanka to make cities more liveable, a statement said. “Urban projects are complex and require meticulous and significant preparation time to ensure they deliver their intended development impacts,” Senior Urban Development Specialist Ron Slangen said.

UNHRC puts Sri Lanka’s rights record back in the spotlight

Sri Lanka’s Rupee has fallen by over 2201% against US Dollar in a 41 year history since the economy was opened to the globe in 1977, the analysts notes. Accordingly as at January 1st 1977 US Dollar exchange rate in terms of Sri Lankan Rupees stood at Rs. 7.27 levels whilst as at 19th September 2018 nearly 41 year history US Dollar had appreciated making Sri Lankans pay over Rs. 167.4125 (Central Bank announced Telegraphic Transfer Rate as 19 September 2018) for a US Dollar.
